Runners who have been putting off signing up for Beer Sheva's Light Run have a shrinking window: Sport5 reports that entry prices for the city's night race jump at midnight on the night of August 2-3, giving latecomers only two more days to lock in the cheaper rate.
The event, now a fixture of the Israeli running calendar, returns to the streets and river park of the Negev capital on Wednesday, September 9. It is organised by the Beer Sheva Municipality and produced by the Shvoong company, run this year in partnership with the IDF.
The night format is the draw. Runners set off after dark under stadium-style lighting rigs along courses that Sport5 says meet athletics union certification standards, built for genuine personal-best attempts rather than just a scenic jog.
There is something for every level of runner. The competitive card covers the half marathon (21.1km), 10km and 5km, while a recreational programme of 2.5km, 1km and 500m brings families, children and first-time runners into the same night.
A total prize pool of 18,000 shekels will be split among the winners of the headline categories, according to the report, giving the elite fields a genuine incentive alongside the mass-participation atmosphere.
Sport5 describes a running festival built around a 'Saluting Security Forces' theme, with thousands of civilian runners expected to take to the course alongside serving soldiers and their commanders — a recurring element of the Beer Sheva race in recent editions.
The evening does not end at the finish line. Organisers have built an expansive post-race expo featuring sport and lifestyle vendors and experience zones, with international DJ Skazi and the live band Rockville booked to headline the entertainment programme.
Registration remains open through the event's official website, with organisers using the looming deadline to push a final wave of early sign-ups before the higher price tier kicks in this weekend.
