Bruno Guimarães is set to undergo a medical at Arsenal's London Colney training base on Monday, the final procedural step in a transfer that has been building for weeks, ONE reports.
According to the report, Arsenal have agreed a package worth close to £80 million to prise the Brazil international away from Newcastle United, structured as an initial fee of around £70m with a further £10m in add-ons.
The 28-year-old, who captains Newcastle, is set to sign a five-year contract once the medical is cleared, with an official announcement expected early in the week.
ONE notes that manager Mikel Arteta has pursued the midfielder for a long time, with Arsenal having seen earlier approaches for Guimarães turned down before finally striking an agreement with Newcastle this summer.
Guimarães himself pushed hard for the move, according to the report, even delaying his arrival at Newcastle's pre-season training camp in Spain so as not to jeopardise the negotiations.
Personal terms were already in place well before the medical was scheduled, leaving Arsenal needing only to finalise the fee with Newcastle to get the deal over the line.
Arteta reportedly views Guimarães as the answer to Arsenal's long search for a commanding presence in central midfield, valuing the leadership, quality and physical power he has shown in four seasons in the Premier League.
If completed as expected, it would rank among the marquee departures from Newcastle since the club's Saudi-backed takeover, and a statement signing for an Arsenal side already sitting as reigning champions.
