Hapoel Tel Aviv have added another ball-handler to their backcourt, officially announcing the signing of American guard Eugene German through the end of the 2026/27 season, the club confirmed via ONE.
German, 28, stands 1.83m and arrives in Israel off the back of a strong four-year run in China's CBA, most recently with Beijing Ducks, where he averaged 18.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game while shooting an efficient 54.2 percent on twos and 40.1 percent from three.
He had most recently been playing in Puerto Rico with Indios de Mayagüez, posting 17.4 points, 4.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds across eight appearances before Hapoel moved to bring him to Tel Aviv.
A native of Gary, Indiana, German built his reputation at Northern Illinois University, where he left as the program's all-time leading scorer after a career that made him a fixture on the Huskies' backcourt from 2016 to 2020. His professional path since has taken him through Europe, Turkey and China, including stops with Qingdao and Fujian before his move to Beijing.
"I'm excited to join this organization and team," German said of the move. "You can expect me to bring energy every moment on the court and give everything."
Hapoel's general manager, Georgios Chinas, framed the signing as a boost to an already crowded guard rotation: "Eugene is a talented addition to our guard position who will bring another dimension to our game."
Head coach Dimitris Itoudis, who will oversee German's EuroLeague debut this season, praised his scoring versatility, saying the American "knows how to score points in different ways and contribute in various manners," and that he was looking forward to adding that dimension to an already strong roster.
The deal continues what has been an active off-season rebuild for Hapoel Tel Aviv as the club prepares for another EuroLeague campaign, with German set to add scoring punch and playmaking depth to the backcourt alongside the rest of Itoudis's returning group.
