Maccabi Tel Aviv has locked up the guard who carried them to the Israeli championship. Iffe Lundberg has agreed a new contract with the club, Sport5 and Israel Hayom both report, ending months of stop-start negotiations over his future in yellow.
According to Israel Hayom, the new deal runs for two seasons through the end of 2027-28 at a reported salary of $1.8 million per year, a significant raise on his previous terms. Sport5, which first reported the fresh agreement, adds that the contract carries a club option for a further season.
The two sides had been talking for months, with a financial gap holding up a resolution. Israel Hayom reports that Maccabi improved its offer in recent days, narrowing the difference and allowing the sides to close the deal this week. An official club announcement is still pending.
Lundberg, a 31-year-old Danish international, joined Maccabi during the 2025-26 season under head coach Oded Kattash, arriving from Partizan Belgrade. Sport5 reports he held offers from other clubs but chose to stay, telling teammates he loves the club and Israel and values the status he earned there.
That status was forged on the court. Lundberg averaged 11.0 points and 3.6 assists in the EuroLeague and 10.5 points and 3.8 assists in the domestic regular season, figures he produced despite battling injuries — including a partial Achilles tendon tear that sidelined him for weeks.
He was at his best when it mattered most. In the playoffs he lifted his numbers to 14.1 points, 5.1 assists and 3.3 rebounds a game, and was named Finals MVP as Maccabi beat Hapoel Tel Aviv 3-1 to claim the club's 58th Israeli championship, sealing the series with an 83-79 win in Game 4.
Retaining him now removes one of the more pressing items on Maccabi's off-season to-do list, and keeps a proven EuroLeague-level playmaker in Kattash's rotation as the club, freshly extended through 2029 himself, builds toward next season.
