Jeff Dowtin Jr is heading to Italy. Napoli Basket officially announced the signing of the American point guard for the 2026-27 season on Monday, confirming a move Israeli and Italian media had already reported as agreed the previous evening.
The deal ends a summer of uncertainty for the 29-year-old, whose single season at Maccabi Tel Aviv finished with an early parting of ways. Dowtin had also been in negotiations with AEK Athens, but that path closed, leaving Naples rather than Athens to host his second European season.
He had arrived in Tel Aviv in August 2025 on a three-year contract, his first stop outside North America after NBA spells with Golden State, Milwaukee, Orlando, Toronto and Philadelphia.
His numbers in yellow and blue were respectable rather than commanding. He averaged 9.6 points and 4.3 assists in around 21 minutes a game in domestic play, and 8.1 points with 2.4 assists in just over 17 minutes a night in the EuroLeague.
It was not enough to see out the contract. Maccabi and Dowtin agreed to part ways in May, before the season had even finished, and the guard re-entered the market.
Napoli represent an ambitious landing spot. The Serie A club are returning to European competition for the first time in nearly two decades, drawn into a EuroCup group featuring Bourg-en-Bresse, Tofas Bursa, Buducnost and Trentino, among others.
For Dowtin, the EuroCup offers a stage a rung below the EuroLeague nights he knew in Tel Aviv, and a chance to run a team of his own in a city rediscovering its basketball appetite.
