Roey Gladstone, the vice-president of communications and digital at Maccabi Tel Aviv's basketball club, is leaving his post after nine years in charge of a department he built from the ground up, ONE reported.
Gladstone joined Maccabi in September 2017, a few months after stepping down as head of the basketball desk at the Sports Channel, where he had covered the club as a journalist. He was brought in to set up a modern communications and digital operation for one of Israeli sport's most closely watched franchises.
According to ONE, the exit comes at the end of his current term and was framed by both sides as an amicable, planned departure rather than a dismissal. Gladstone is expected to stay on through a transition period to help hand the department to his successor, who has not yet been named.
"I want to thank everyone for an unforgettable, challenging and fascinating period, in which every day brought a new adventure," Gladstone said, according to the report.
Club CEO Avi Ben Tal, who took over at Maccabi last August after a long career at Yedioth Ahronoth and as CEO of Channel 13 and Ynet, credited Gladstone with shaping the club's public voice. "Roey's contribution over the years was hugely significant in establishing our communications department and leading Maccabi Tel Aviv's digital activity," Ben Tal said, per ONE.
Over nine years, Gladstone became one of the more recognizable off-court figures at Yad Eliyahu, fronting the club's response through championship runs and controversies alike.
No timetable for a successor has been set, and ONE did not report where Gladstone is headed next.
