Or Blorian completed 75 minutes on his Major League Soccer debut as Sporting Kansas City lost 3–2 to St. Louis CITY SC at Energizer Park. The Israel centre-back started on the left side of Sporting’s central defence and helped his new team recover from two goals down, but Eduard Löwen’s late penalty decided a five-goal return from the World Cup break.
St. Louis built their advantage in eight first-half minutes. Jeong Sang-Bin converted from close range in the 28th minute before Marcel Hartel finished Simon Becher’s transition pass in the 36th. Sporting answered before the interval when Capita struck from outside the area in the 42nd minute, cutting the deficit to 2–1 and changing the second half from damage limitation into a genuine chase.
Blorian’s first assignment was demanding because St. Louis played with two forwards close enough to occupy both centre-backs while Hartel attacked the space behind them. The 26-year-old remained in the starting back line alongside Jansen Miller, with Jayden Reid and Ian James completing the defence in front of goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland. It was his first senior appearance for Sporting after joining from Hapoel Be’er Sheva this summer.
The debut ended after an injury delay in the 74th minute. Blorian received treatment on the pitch and Ethan Bartlow replaced him in the 75th, with no diagnosis or recovery timetable announced. Sporting equalised almost immediately: Dejan Joveljić met Manu García’s pass in the 76th minute and finished left-footed to make it 2–2.
The comeback did not survive the final phase. Löwen converted a penalty in the 85th minute to restore St. Louis’s lead, placing the kick beyond Cleveland for the winning goal. Sporting pushed through nine minutes of stoppage time but could not find a third response. St. Louis goalkeeper Benjamin Lundt and midfielder Daniel Edelman were booked late; Capita received Sporting’s only yellow card in the 78th minute. No player was sent off.
For Blorian, the most significant fact is that his first MLS appearance began as a start rather than a late introduction. Sporting trusted him in an away rivalry fixture immediately after the long league pause. His 75 minutes supplied a first measure of the speed, spacing and transition volume he will face in the competition, even if the treatment that preceded his substitution leaves his short-term availability to be clarified.
Sporting had signed the Israeli international to a contract running through the 2028/29 season, with club options beyond it. He arrived after winning the Israeli Premier League and Super Cup with Be’er Sheva and after breaking into the senior Israel squad. The move therefore carries an expectation that he can compete for a regular place rather than serve only as defensive depth.
The result belongs to St. Louis, whose two-goal opening and late penalty survived Sporting’s response. Blorian’s debut belongs in a different category: an incomplete individual night within a complete team defeat. He started, played 75 minutes and left with the score still 2–1; Sporting levelled after his departure and then conceded the winner. The next useful evidence will be whether he is available to continue building minutes in the following round.
