Rodina Moscow are said to be monitoring Basam Zaarura, with the newly promoted Russian Premier League club reportedly viewing the Maccabi Netanya midfielder as a candidate to strengthen their engine room during the current transfer window. The interest surfaced in Russian media on Friday and was carried by two Israeli outlets, though it has not hardened into a formal approach.
Zaarura, 23, is a right-footed central midfielder from Shefar'am who came through Maccabi Haifa's academy before moving to Netanya in 2023. A loan spell at Ironi Tiberias preceded his breakthrough, and on his return he produced the most productive campaign of his career.
The report credits him with ten goals from 24 appearances in all competitions, a striking return for a player equally comfortable screening the back four.
His contract at the Netanya Stadium runs until June 2027, so Rodina — or anyone else — would have to agree a fee rather than wait for a free transfer. Transfermarkt lists his value at €350,000 as of June, a figure that looks modest against Russian top-flight budgets but hands Netanya a floor from which to negotiate. Any sale would still require the club's consent.
Rodina are an unusual suitor. Founded in 2015 around a Moscow youth academy and bankrolled by businessman Sergey Lomakin, they sealed a top-two finish in the Russian First League last season to reach the Premier League for the first time in their history, and are now recruiting players capable of surviving the step up in class.
For Zaarura, capped three times by Israel's Under-21 side, the calculation would set a bigger league and salary against leaving the Israeli Premier League just as his club form has peaked.
For now nothing is agreed. The interest remains a media report without club confirmation, and any deal would run through Maccabi Netanya's boardroom first.
