Real Madrid's pursuit of Rodri has hit a financial wall. According to ONE, Manchester City are refusing to move off a €75 million valuation for their Spain international, leaving the deal stuck despite direct contact between the two clubs.
ONE reports that Madrid have set their own ceiling at €50 million, meaning roughly €25 million still separates the parties with no obvious middle ground yet found. Other outlets tracking the saga, including Sky Sports, TheHardTackle and Yahoo Sports, describe the same standoff, with some suggesting an eventual fee closer to €65 million could emerge as a compromise.
Rodri, 30, is contracted to City until June 2027 after arriving from Atlético Madrid in 2019. Per ONE, personal terms with Real Madrid have effectively already been agreed, with a prospective contract at the Bernabéu running through 2030 — meaning the football side of the move has moved faster than the financial one.
City's asking price reflects both the player's stature and his remaining contract length: this is essentially their last realistic window to sell him for a significant fee before his deal runs down further.
ONE reports that Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez is open to restructuring the offer around performance-related bonuses and variable clauses, a mechanism that would let Madrid formally stay under their stated ceiling while still giving City a path to a higher effective fee if the add-ons are triggered.
Rodri arrives at this negotiation as the reigning Ballon d'Or winner, having claimed the 2024 award after anchoring both City's midfield and Spain's run to European and World Cup success. He has been one of Pep Guardiola's most trusted lieutenants since his move from Atlético for a fee in the region of €70 million.
For now, the two sides remain at an impasse. Madrid's stance, as relayed by ONE, is that they will not go beyond their €50 million limit without the deal being reshaped through add-ons — leaving City to decide whether to hold out for their full valuation or accept a structured package to get a deal done this summer.
