Luca Vildoza will not be wearing yellow next season. The Argentine point guard, one of the names Maccabi Tel Aviv had quietly explored as a possible addition to their backcourt, has instead signed a two-year contract with Partizan Belgrade, ONE reported on Sunday.
According to the outlet, Maccabi had identified the 30-year-old as a leading candidate to strengthen the roster, but the club will now have to look elsewhere after Vildoza opted for the Serbian powerhouse instead.
The move caps a short and turbulent stint in Italy. Vildoza joined Virtus Bologna on a three-year contract last summer that included exit clauses, but left after just a single season once new coach Alex Mombro arrived and began reshaping the roster.
Partizan is not unfamiliar territory in a roundabout way. Vildoza has previously worn the colours of Crvena Zvezda, Partizan's fierce Belgrade rival, meaning he now becomes one of the rare players to have represented both clubs. He has also turned out for the two dominant forces of Greek basketball, Panathinaikos and Olympiacos, giving him a rare résumé across four of the most storied clubs in Serbian and Greek hoops.
The pedigree behind the move is considerable. Vildoza won a EuroLeague title with Panathinaikos in 2024, then lifted a Greek League crown with Olympiacos the following season while helping the Reds reach the EuroLeague Final Four. Earlier in his career he had spells at Baskonia and a brief run in the NBA with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Internationally, the point guard has been a fixture for Argentina, helping the Albiceleste reach the final of the 2019 FIBA World Cup and featuring for his country at the Tokyo Olympics.
For Maccabi Tel Aviv, the news means a return to the drawing board in the guard market as the club continues shaping its roster for the season ahead, with ONE's report making clear the interest in Vildoza did not progress beyond an early stage.
