Israel's two crews at the 470 World Championship in Enoshima, Japan, moved in opposite directions overnight as racing resumed after a spell of light and unpredictable wind, ONE reports.
Roy Levy and Ariel Gal, the reigning 2024 470 Junior European champions who won silver at July's Junior World Championship in Gdynia, had opened this senior Worlds strongly, sitting third overall before slipping to seventh. According to ONE, a difficult day of racing dropped the young pair further still, down to 11th place.
Levy and Gal completed three races in tricky conditions, finishing seventh, 22nd and sixth, before a fourth race was abandoned for lack of wind and left uncompleted.
In the same fleet, Israel's other 470 crew, Nitai Hasson and Noga Tiano, went the other way. ONE reports they climbed to 10th overall after four completed races, having started the day down in 17th and worked their way up through 15th on scores of 15, 34, 5 and 15.
The championship, being sailed off Enoshima Yacht Harbour through 17 August, is shaping up as a tight contest at the top of the fleet, with Spain's Jordi Xammar and Marta Cardona among those leading the Gold Fleet after the opening races, according to Sail-World's coverage of the regatta.
With both Israeli boats now inside the top dozen, the remaining days of fleet racing will decide whether either crew can force its way into medal contention before the championship concludes.
