Yaniv Levy is stepping away from Israeli basketball's boardroom. The Israel Basketball Association's representative on the Premier League directorate has informed chairman Amos Frishman, in a letter, that he is ending his tenure on the board after roughly three seasons.
ONE reports that Levy's exit is part of a broader wind-down of his public roles rather than any dispute with the league's current leadership. In his letter, he singled out league directorate chairman Ari Steinberg and CEO David Basan for praise, saying the pair had shown effective, steady management during a turbulent period for the sport.
Levy previously headed the Information Department at the Histadrut, Israel's national trade union federation, before taking his seat on the directorate as one of the Basketball Association's public appointees. According to the league's own listing of board members, he served alongside fellow association representatives Naor Galili and Gal Levi as well as several public and club-appointed directors.
In the letter, Levy urged Israeli basketball to keep its focus on merit over politics, writing that "professionals must lead the sport, not job seekers," and that persistence rather than shortcuts is what ultimately delivers results — a message he directed in particular at young players coming through the system.
He also framed his time in sports administration in broader terms, telling Frishman he remains convinced that Israeli sport can serve as a bridge that reduces inequality and opens doors, and that he intends to stay engaged with basketball's future even after leaving the board.
ONE's report does not name a successor for Levy's seat on the directorate, nor does it give a precise date for when his resignation takes effect. The Basketball Association is expected to name a replacement representative in due course.
The departure comes as the league directorate, under Steinberg and Basan, continues to navigate a demanding off-season that has included wage disputes and scheduling talks with the players' organisation ahead of the new Winner League campaign.
