Tel Aviv's Menora Mivtachim Arena stages a fight card on Monday night that its own promoters have spent weeks framing as a statement of intent, and the man carrying the main event insists he wanted it that way. Ahavat HaShem Gordon, the Israeli Muay Thai fighter fronting his family's new promotion, meets Brazilian veteran John Lineker in the headline bout of GFN 1: Israel vs. The World.
Lineker is not a soft opening assignment. The 36-year-old "Hands of Stone" spent years as a top-five UFC bantamweight contender before moving to ONE Championship, where he won the bantamweight MMA world title and has since been fighting his way through ONE's Muay Thai ranks. He lost that MMA belt to Fabricio Andrade in February after the bout was stopped in the fourth round, but remains one of the most recognisable names to ever step into an Israeli ring.
Speaking to ONE ahead of the card, Gordon made clear the matchup was no accident. "We insisted on bringing a tough opponent, not an easy one," he said, describing the search for a credible international name for his promotion's debut rather than a routine win.
He was equally direct about where that leaves the fight itself: Lineker, he acknowledged, "won titles" and carries a résumé most fighters on this card could only dream of — but, in Gordon's own words to ONE, "he's going to fall." It's the kind of line pre-fight interviews are built on, respect for the opponent's history paired with total confidence in the outcome.
The bout sits atop a card built around Gordon and his two brothers, Ruach HaShem and Kibedy, who co-promote GFN alongside Yaniv Kaminski. Rather than a single headliner, Monday's show is structured as a triple main event: Ruach Gordon faces Maximus Bejenuta and Kibedy Gordon meets Jose Alberto Quiñonez, both in separate Muay Thai bouts, with Ahavat HaShem's clash against Lineker top of the bill.
The undercard adds further international depth, with former UFC lightweight Natan Levy — an Israeli fighter with his own top-level pedigree — taking on Lando Vannata in a kickboxing matchup, part of a program the Gordon brothers have pitched as a serious, standalone Israeli fight promotion rather than a one-off exhibition.
Gordon has said his camp trained in Thailand in the buildup, the kind of dedicated preparation typically reserved for a fighter's biggest test to date — which, by his own account, is exactly what Monday represents.
GFN 1: Israel vs. The World goes ahead on Monday, July 27, at the Menora Mivtachim Arena in Tel Aviv, with Ahavat HaShem Gordon's clash against John Lineker as the night's marquee attraction.
