Iffe Lundberg has agreed a new multi-year contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv, ONE reports, ending months of stop-start talks and keeping the Danish guard in yellow weeks after he was named MVP of the Israeli championship series.

According to ONE, the new deal runs two seasons with a mutual option for a third, worth roughly $1.5 million a year. Israel Hayom, reporting separately, put the number closer to $1.8 million annually through the end of the 2028 season — the two outlets agree on the shape of the extension even if the precise salary figure has not been confirmed publicly.

Getting there took time. ONE reports Lundberg's camp initially asked for around $10 million over three seasons, a figure the club rejected outright. Sport5 tracked the back-and-forth as it played out, reporting Maccabi's offer rising in stages — from roughly $1.2 million to about $2 million a year — before the gap finally closed.

Maccabi had every incentive to get a deal done. Lundberg was named MVP of the playoff final series after the club beat rivals Hapoel Tel Aviv to the Israeli championship, and despite arriving as a scoring guard he ended up plugging holes in the frontcourt rotation that had troubled Maccabi for years, according to ONE.

Copenhagen-born and 31, Lundberg joined Maccabi in the summer of 2024 on the back of five EuroLeague seasons with CSKA Moscow, Virtus Bologna and Partizan Belgrade, plus a brief four-game run with the Phoenix Suns in the NBA. His first Tel Aviv contract, worth about $1.3 million, was split with Partizan Belgrade under a co-financing arrangement, with Maccabi covering roughly 60% of the salary.

There is still work to do this off-season. ONE reports Maccabi also needs to resolve the situation around American guard Lonnie Walker IV — whose existing contract carries buyout options — and wants to add further backcourt depth, with the center spot still flagged as the position the club is most eager to strengthen.

For a roster still sorting through those open questions, tying down a Finals MVP through 2028 removes at least one major variable before the new season begins.
