Two of the biggest transfer sagas of the European summer edged forward on Monday, with Barcelona reportedly circling Rodri in Manchester and AC Milan digging in over Rafael Leão in a separate stand-off with Fenerbahçe.
According to ONE, citing Cadena SER, Barcelona are keeping close tabs on Rodri's situation at Manchester City, though the Catalan club stress it is not currently their top transfer priority. Real Madrid, by contrast, are said to be relaxed, believing that if the reigning Ballon d'Or holder does leave the Etihad, the Bernabéu remains his preferred destination.
The Spanish reporting, led by Cadena SER's Nil Solà, frames Barcelona's interest as opportunistic rather than a fully formed pursuit — the club reportedly sees Rodri as a genuine 'top' option at defensive midfield and would be willing to act if Real Madrid's own negotiations with City stall, though any deal would still depend on the player himself signalling a willingness to move to Camp Nou rather than the Bernabéu.
Rodri, 30, has been City's midfield metronome since arriving from Atlético Madrid in 2019 and captained Spain to their World Cup triumph earlier this year, a run that has only sharpened suitors' interest even as his contract situation in Manchester remains unresolved.
In Milan, the club's stance on Leão has hardened rather than softened. ONE reports that Fenerbahçe presented a loan offer with a purchase option for the Portugal winger, only for the Rossoneri to reject it outright, insisting a temporary departure is not a viable option.
That account matches reporting from Fabrizio Romano, who wrote on X that AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale made clear in talks that a loan-with-option structure is off the table, and that the only route to a deal is a permanent sale for a serious fee — reported elsewhere as a minimum of around €50 million.
Contacts between the two clubs are continuing, and Romano indicated Fenerbahçe are not walking away, with a fresh, improved offer possible in the coming days as the Istanbul side pushes to land the 27-year-old before the window closes.
Leão's own camp appears to be pushing for an exit too: the winger has reportedly parted ways with his long-standing agent and brought in lawyers to help accelerate a move away from San Siro, with interest also said to extend to Premier League clubs including Manchester United.
Neither deal is close to completion, and both remain firmly in the report-and-rumour stage rather than confirmed business — but with barely a month left before the major European windows shut, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Milan all face pressure to show their hand.
