Hapoel Jerusalem supporters came under attack from dozens of Maccabi Tel Aviv fans on Sunday night, according to a report from ONE that described masked assailants using pepper spray, clubs and thrown stones against fans travelling home from the match.
The trouble began, per the account carried by ONE, when a group of around 20 people surrounded a car carrying Hapoel Jerusalem supporters and asked what was inside their bags before spraying them with pepper spray. The car drove on, but the group caught up moments later, smashing a window and making off with the bags.
"About 20 people approached our car, asked what was in our bags and sprayed us with pepper. We drove ahead, then they broke our window and took our bags," one of the Hapoel Jerusalem fans told ONE.
A second wave of roughly 20 masked attackers, some armed with clubs, then joined the assault, throwing stones at the fans. The entire episode lasted about ten minutes, according to the report.
Two of the supporters needed hospital treatment and were taken away by ambulance, ONE said.
The fan who spoke to the outlet was also critical of the police response, saying officers arrived roughly a quarter of an hour after the attack began and left again without taking statements from witnesses.
The assault came on the same night Hapoel Jerusalem travelled to face Maccabi Tel Aviv, with kickoff at 20:15 at a stadium in Ramat Hasharon, according to Hapoel Jerusalem's own pre-match build-up — timing consistent with ONE's report, published shortly before midnight.
Neither Maccabi Tel Aviv nor Hapoel Jerusalem, nor police, had issued a formal statement on the incident at the time of ONE's report, and the precise location of the roadside attack was not specified.
