Beitar Yavne has formally cancelled its registration for next season's Liga Alef South, ONE reports, walking away from a division it only reached for the first time in its history twelve months ago.
The withdrawal is now official with the Israel Football Association, according to the report, and the vacated place goes to Ironi Beit Shemesh, who finished runner-up in the promotion play-off out of Liga Bet South B.
For Beit Shemesh it is a genuinely historic moment: the city has not had a team in Liga Alef since 1989, when Hapoel Beit Shemesh was relegated out of the division after three seasons there.
"We're going up to Liga Alef! Ironi Beit Shemesh is making history and returning to Liga Alef for the first time since 1989!" the club said in a statement carried by ONE. "This is not just the rise of a football team. It is the rise of an entire city."
The circumstances make Beitar Yavne's exit all the more striking. The club, refounded in 2013 after its original incarnation folded in 1997, had climbed from Liga Gimel through Liga Bet before finally reaching Liga Alef South for 2025/26 — a first in its history.
Once there, Beitar Yavne outperformed expectations that had them marked as relegation candidates, instead finishing the season in a position to contest the test games for promotion to Liga Leumit, Israel's second tier.
ONE's report does not give a reason for the club scrapping its Liga Alef registration barely a season after arriving, and no explanation from Beitar Yavne itself has yet been reported.
The immediate effect on the table is straightforward: Ironi Beit Shemesh move up in Beitar Yavne's place, giving Liga Alef South a fresh face for 2026/27 and giving Beit Shemesh's football community a return to a level the city has waited 35 years to see again.
