Artem Dolgopyat claimed his third European floor exercise title on Friday, landing a routine worth 14.466 points in the final in Zagreb to add another chapter to one of the most decorated individual careers in Israeli sport, ONE reported.

The 29-year-old, Israel's Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion on floor and the Paris 2024 Olympic silver medallist on the same apparatus, topped the men's final at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships, held at Arena Zagreb as part of a championships running from August 19-23.

Dolgopyat had gone in as the form favourite, qualifying with the second-best score in the field at 14.766, before producing a slightly lower but still commanding routine in the final to see off Arsenii Dukhno, who took silver with 14.333, and Britain's Harry Hepworth, who claimed bronze on 14.300.

It was Dolgopyat's third European gold specifically on floor exercise, following continental titles in 2020 and 2022, and takes his overall haul at the championships to eight medals: three gold and four silver on floor, plus a bronze on vault, according to ONE.

The win came in a championships that also saw Israel's men's team finish 10th, a placement that secures qualification for this year's world championships, ONE reported.

Dolgopyat, who competes for Maccabi Tel Aviv, has built his career around the floor exercise, the apparatus that delivered Israel's second-ever Olympic gold at the Tokyo Games in 2021 and a world title in Antwerp in 2023.

Born in Dnipro, Ukraine, he moved to Israel with his family as a child and became a citizen in 2009, growing into arguably the country's most consistent individual medal-winner across the past decade of major championships.

At 29, and with a third continental floor crown now secured in Zagreb, he remains one of Israel's clearest medal prospects heading toward the next world championships and Olympic cycle.
